History

Under Nguyen Dynasty, the Royal court ordered to compile various sets of historical and literature works to promulgate social norms and regulations to citizens and pass on names and careers of the Emperors and historical events to future generations. The compilation led to creation of a special kind of record – the Woodblocks. The Historical Office and the Cabinet in Nguyen Dynasty were responsible for compiling the works, carving and preserving the woodblocks.

Long-lasting value

Royal woodblocks of Nguyen Dynasty are exclusive with plenty of significant and precious information used to publish to localities. Under Nguyen Dynasty, the collection was treated as a “national treasure”. The authorized persons only could access to the collection. Its value in term of content is reflected in the careful compilation to become the series of annals recording the history of nation though periods.

Woodblock repository

The repository was built on a hill in the complex of old Tran Le Xuan Palace, which is located on a high terrain, convenient to access with stable geology, rapid drainage and far away from ignition sources and pollution.
